Human Genome Sequencing

One of the first humans to ever have their entire genome (all of the DNA in their cells) sequenced was a guy called Craig Venter. The reason his was one of the first is that he founded the company, Celera, which did the sequencing. It took years and cost $300 million! Another guy to have his DNA sequenced was James Watson. His genome was sequenced because he is one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA. James Watson’s genome was completed in just two months for less than $1 million. A Han Chinese (largest single human ethnic group in the world) individual just had their genome sequenced, the first Asian genome completed. I tell you, it wont be long before you can just walk into your local GP and ask for your Genome sequence. Kind of like Gattaca (wikipedia, imdb) 🙂
